A county borough council standards committee discussed a report on April 7, highlighting instances of raised voices and disrespect among councillors at the Briton Ferry Town Council meeting observed in January 2025. The report outlined the need for interventions by the chair to maintain order, as some councillors repeatedly interrupted each other, revisited unresolved issues, and displayed a general lack of respect towards their colleagues. The observer noted that despite a sense of passion for the council’s work, when boundaries were crossed, the meeting became challenging to manage. While positive aspects were acknowledged, there was a clear call for improved conduct and professionalism among council members.
During the meeting, a co-opted member was in attendance, adding an extra layer of scrutiny to the proceedings.
