During a preliminary hearing at Newport Magistrates’ Court, Mohammed admitted to possessing a total of 251 images in Category A, 52 in Category B, and 16 in Category C. Additionally, he confessed to hoarding 41 prohibited non-photographic images of children, as well as six extreme images depicting “a person performing an act of intercourse with a live or dead animal.”

The offences committed by Mohammed occurred between December 2022 and March 2024. As a result of his actions, Judge Celia Hughes sentenced him to 30 weeks in a young offender institution, suspended for 12 months. In addition to the suspended sentence, Mohammed was also ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work, attend 26 rehabilitation activity sessions, pay £200 in prosecution costs, a £41 victim services surcharge, and adhere to a five-year sexual harm prevention order. Furthermore, he is required to register as a sex offender for the next seven years.

As a final measure, the judge ruled that the desktop computer containing the illicit images must be destroyed. This case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of engaging in such heinous activities and highlights the importance of safeguarding vulnerable individuals, especially children, from exploitation and abuse.

The severity of the charges levied against Mohammed underscores the urgent need for increased vigilance and monitoring to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future. It is crucial for authorities and communities to work together to identify and address cases of child exploitation and abuse promptly. This case serves as a sobering reminder of the dark realities that exist in our society and the importance of taking decisive action to protect the most vulnerable members of our community.

The sentencing of Mohammed sends a clear message that such abhorrent behaviour will not be tolerated, and those who engage in child abuse and exploitation will be held accountable for their actions. By highlighting this case, we hope to raise awareness about the prevalence of such crimes and encourage individuals to report any suspicious activities to the relevant authorities. It is only through collective effort and vigilance that we can create a safer environment for all members of society, especially the most vulnerable among us.
