Surge in men getting one plastic surgery operation, consultant says

According to a consultant, there has been a significant increase in men seeking plastic surgery to address issues with their chest. Mr. Ramachandran Prasad, a Consultant Breast Oncoplastic and Aesthetic Surgeon at Pall Mall Medical, has observed a growing trend of men opting for surgery to reduce and reshape their chests. The procedure, known as gynecomastia surgery or reduction mammaplasty for gynecomastia, involves reducing the size of male breasts often caused by excess breast tissue.

Mr. Prasad highlighted that men are increasingly seeking overall enhancements to their chests, ranging from addressing fatty tissues to contouring surgery. He noted that the decision for male chest reduction is based on a thorough examination to tailor the surgical approach to each individual’s specific needs. Some men may have excess fat in the chest, known as false gynecomastia, which can be treated with liposuction. However, others may have true gynecomastia, requiring surgical removal of extra breast tissue.

In recent years, there has been a surge in searches for terms like ‘chest reduction’ and ‘pec contouring’ in the UK, indicating a growing interest among men in cosmetic procedures. Mr. Prasad mentioned that while implants for larger pectorals remain an option, chest reductions are becoming more popular among male patients. He attributed this trend to men becoming more body-conscious and willing to undergo surgical enhancements with improved techniques resulting in minimal scarring.

The consultant emphasized that men are increasingly opting for procedures that utilise their own biology to achieve desired aesthetic outcomes, moving away from the artificial appearance associated with implants. With advancements in surgical techniques and a rise in male body awareness, more men are open to undergoing cosmetic surgery to enhance their physical appearance.
