A 70-year-old woman has appeared in court accused of causing the death of a baby in a collision outside a Welsh hospital. Mabli Cariad Hall died last year after she was struck by a car outside Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire. Mabli, who was just eight months old, was injured in the incident on June 21 last year and taken to a Cardiff hospital for specialist treatment. She died four days later.
Bridget Carole Curtis, from Begelly, Pembrokeshire, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving in connection with the incident and appeared at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on Thursday morning. She appeared in the dock and spoke only to confirm her name, date of birth and address. Her representative in court, John Dye, told Magistrate Jayne Picouto that Curtis would be indicating a plea.
In a statement given to WalesOnline last year, Mabli’s family said: “The loss of Mabli Cariad has changed all our lives forever. The pain and grief we are suffering as a family is indescribable.” Several members of Mabli’s family were present in the courtroom to watch the five-minute hearing. The matter was adjourned, and Curtis was granted unconditional bail and told she must next appear at Swansea Crown Court on September 20.
