A new sofa-based fitness regime has been introduced to help people exercise from the comfort of their homes, even gaining support from comedian Bill Bailey. Known as S.O.F.A (Sit On Fitness Apparatus), this workout routine comprises simple exercises that can be done using a sofa. It aims to inspire individuals who have been motivated by the recent ‘Summer of Sport’ to become more physically active. A recent study involving 2,000 adults revealed that a significant number find it challenging to include exercise in their daily routines, particularly those dealing with long-term health issues. However, the enthusiasm from the recent sporting events has prompted nearly one-third of respondents to consider increasing their activity levels.
Bill Bailey expressed his excitement about collaborating with ‘We Are Undefeatable’ for the second year, emphasizing the accessibility and inclusivity of the S.O.F.A workout. He highlighted that fitness should be enjoyable and achievable for everyone, not just elite athletes. The initiative aims to address the barriers faced by individuals with chronic health conditions, with 52% showing interest in engaging in physical activities while seated on their sofas. Observing sports on screens has driven many respondents to boost their physical activities, indicating a growing interest in incorporating exercise into daily routines.
The study also highlighted that 38% of participants believe having more free time would help them integrate exercise, while 30% seek to feel less self-conscious and 20% look for easily accessible exercise options. Despite 38% expressing dissatisfaction with their current level of physical activity, 66% are eager to include more physical activities at home. Duleep Allirajah, representing ‘We Are Undefeatable’, acknowledged the challenges faced by those with chronic health conditions, emphasising the importance of making physical activity accessible and part of everyday routines.
Promoting the benefits of staying active, both physically and mentally, the campaign hopes to inspire individuals to start their fitness journey from the comfort of their sofas. The collaboration with Bill Bailey aims to create awareness about being physically active, especially for those facing health challenges. By introducing innovative and accessible workout options like the S.O.F.A routine, the initiative strives to make fitness enjoyable and achievable for everyone, enhancing overall wellbeing and quality of life.
