Derek Brockway says ‘spring to end’ as cold Arctic air is on the way

Derek Brockway, the famous BBC weatherman, has issued a warning that the recent taste of spring in Wales is about to come to an abrupt end. Despite several days of beautiful sunshine that made it feel like winter was finally behind us, it appears that cold Arctic air is on its way back. Temperatures in Wales are expected to drop significantly, with some areas dipping as low as zero degrees Celsius once again. According to the Met Office, even though we just enjoyed a sunny weekend, the weather is set to turn colder, bringing with it the possibility of hail, sleet, and even snow on hills and mountains.

In a statement on X, Derek Brockway cautioned, “The recent taste of spring will come to an end in the week ahead with cold Arctic air moving down from the north. Drier than average but showers on Wednesday will have a wintry flavour with hail and sleet. A little snow on hills and mountains. Colder nights and more frost!” Chris Bulmer, the Deputy Chief Meteorologist at the Met Office, added that a frontal zone moving south across the UK will usher in much colder air from the north. This change in weather patterns will bring about wintry showers in the north and east of the UK, with possible snowfall mostly limited to higher ground areas. As a result, overnight frosts are expected to return to many regions.
