In a heartbreaking incident, a man named Daniel Bradley tragically passed away after a brutal attack outside a pub. Steven Chappell, who was found guilty of manslaughter in connection with Mr. Bradley’s death, delivered a series of kicks and punches to him as he lay defenceless on the floor. Mr. Bradley was taken to the hospital and later succumbed to sepsis, leaving behind a devastated family.
During the sentencing at Newport Crown Court, Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke described Chappell as a man with a long history of violence. Victim impact statements were read, revealing the unbearable pain and overwhelming sadness Mr. Bradley’s family continues to endure. One statement described how Mr. Bradley’s two young daughters now have to live without their beloved ‘Daddy’.
Mr. Bradley’s father expressed deep sorrow at the loss of his son and criticised Chappell for never showing remorse. Chappell was handed a 16-year extended sentence, with 14 years in custody and a two-year extended licence period.
The judge highlighted Chappell’s previous convictions, including violent offences and noted the viciousness of the attack that led to Mr. Bradley’s death. She described the assault as persistent violence, emphasising Chappell’s actions as deliberate and cruel.
The court proceedings shed light on the devastating impact of loss and the lifelong consequences faced by Mr. Bradley’s family. The sentencing delivered a measure of justice, but the void left by the untimely death of Daniel Bradley serves as a poignant reminder of the irreplaceable loss experienced by his loved ones.
