Thief Assaults Cyclist and Throws his Bike into River in Unprovoked Attack
In a shocking incident, a thief punched a cyclist in an unprovoked attack and threw his bike into a river. Adrian Dadey, aged 38, has been found guilty of assaulting Ibrahim Said as he was riding along the Taff Embankment in Cardiff. The victim suffered swelling and bruising to his mouth, lip, and nose following the brutal attack.
The assault took place on February 2, 2023, when Dadey grabbed Ibrahim without any provocation as he rode past the defendant. Dadey proceeded to pull the victim off his bike and punched him in the left cheek, causing him to fall down the embankment. Despite efforts to escape, Ibrahim was pursued by Dadey, who not only continued to attack him but also stole his bike and callously threw it into the river.
During the sentencing hearing at Newport Crown Court, it was revealed that Dadey has a history of criminal convictions, including offences such as wounding, battery, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Despite this, his defence lawyer, Kirsten Murphy, explained that Dadey had been battling addiction issues, specifically with crack cocaine, and had been sober for two years. She also mentioned that he has the prospect of employment upon his release from prison.
In a victim impact statement read in court, Ibrahim shared the profound effects of the attack on his life. He expressed his fear of going out in the community, the physical injuries he sustained, and the psychological toll of no longer feeling safe. The incident has led him to avoid social outings, impacting his quality of life significantly.
Following his guilty plea to charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and theft, Dadey was sentenced to 14 months in prison by Judge Carl Harrison. He will serve half of the sentence in custody before being released on licence to complete the remainder of his term. The judge emphasised the severity of the crime and the need for accountability.
This disturbing incident serves as a reminder of the dangers individuals can face in public spaces and the impact of unprovoked violence on victims. It also highlights the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions and providing support to those who have been affected by such traumatic events.
As communities strive to promote safety and security for all residents, incidents like these underscore the ongoing need for vigilance and measures to prevent similar crimes from occurring in the future.
