Woman arrested after small dog ‘almost mauled to death’ in Newport

A woman has been taken into custody in connection with a brutal dog-on-dog attack in Newport that left a small dog on the brink of death. The incident involved Giles Lewis’ six-year-old dog, Yuki, who was severely injured after being viciously attacked by another dog near Mr. Lewis’s residence. The horrifying assault took place at approximately 7.10pm on February 6 while Mr. Lewis was out for a walk with Yuki along Risca Road, just a short distance from their home. According to Mr. Lewis, a lurcher-type dog grabbed Yuki in its jaws, violently shook her, causing her to cry out in pain.

Following an appeal, Gwent Police have confirmed the arrest of a 47-year-old woman from Newport in connection with the dog on dog attack that occurred on February 6. The suspect has been apprehended on suspicion of having control over a dangerously out-of-control dog. Yuki was rushed to a hospital in Langford after the attack where she received medical attention, including stabilisation, methadone, and feeding through a tube to aid her recovery.

The identity of the woman has now been confirmed. A 47-year-old woman from Newport has since been arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control. She remains in custody at this time. The dog believed to be involved in the reported attack has been seized.
