An investigation into a fire at Mumbles Pier amusement arcade has revealed that the incident was caused accidentally. The blaze, which occurred at 3.51am on Saturday, August 17, attracted six Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service crews. The fire, located in the roof space of the western side of the building, resulted in “significant” heat and smoke damage to large parts of the arcade, a cherished destination for families over generations.
This unfortunate event marks the second fire to hit a Mumbles landmark in recent years, following the destruction of the nearby old Cinderella’s nightclub in 2022. A spokesperson for the fire service stated that crews from various fire stations were summoned to the scene and utilised equipment such as breathing apparatus sets, hose reel jets, a thermal imaging camera, and more to extinguish the fire successfully.
Following re-inspections of the property, no significant hotspots were discovered, and a fire investigation confirmed that the fire was unintentional. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety measures in public establishments. The beloved amusement arcade now faces the challenge of recovering from the damage inflicted by this accidental fire, casting a shadow over its iconic status along Mumbles Pier.
