A Welsh woman’s dream of undergoing facial surgery in Turkey quickly turned into a nightmare, leaving her with shocking side effects and regret. Joanne Law, a 56-year-old mother from Manchester, had saved up £5,200 for a face, neck, and eyelid lift, as well as a fat graft, after successfully losing seven stone following gastric sleeve surgery. Her intention was to address the loose skin and wrinkles left from her weight loss, hoping to achieve a rejuvenated appearance akin to a Snapchat filter. However, the reality of the surgery turned out to be far from her expectations.
Upon arriving at the Turkish hospital in June 2023 for the operation, Joanne was unsettled to discover that the operating room was located in a basement and resembled a scene from a horror movie. Despite her initial alarm, she proceeded with the surgery, only to experience complications soon after. Joanne developed blepharitis, a bacterial infection, causing her eyelids to swell and blister for three months post-surgery. The condition left her unable to fully close her eyes, leading to dryness, discomfort, and difficulty with everyday activities like driving at night.
Footage captured Joanne’s eyes remaining partially open even during sleep, with her eyelids unable to fully shut, resulting in constant dryness and irritation. Her dissatisfaction extended beyond the eye issues, as she also dealt with painful scars on her eyes and behind her ears. The neck lift she underwent left her with what she described as a “wobbly turkey neck,” further contributing to her distress. Joanne expressed her disappointment, saying, “I’m really deflated because my sleeve was such a success I thought I was going to look like something straight out of a Snapchat filter.”
