A man blacked out and suffered a seizure while attempting one of Eryri’s most challenging routes in Snowdonia. The incident occurred near Bristly Screes at Glyder Fach while he was on a scrambling route. Fortunately, two doctors happened to be passing by and provided initial emergency care on the ridge. Mountain rescuers from Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation (OVMRO) were also in the area and assisted in the man’s rescue.
The man, who had stopped breathing, was helped off the mountain with the assistance of a coastguard helicopter from Caernarfon. The rescuers highlighted the danger of the area and explained how they managed to safely extract the walker. They commended everyone who stopped to help and expressed hopes for the casualty’s quick return to the hills.
The helicopter transported the man and the rescue team to OVMRO’s base in Capel Curig, from where he was taken to the emergency department at Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor. The OVMRO, a 24-hour voluntary rescue service, played a crucial role in the successful rescue operation. The man’s condition and the prompt actions of the responders underline the importance of being prepared while engaging in adventurous activities in the mountainous terrain of Snowdonia.
