Weather forecasters have raised alarms that indicate Hurricane Ernesto’s remnants are expected to strike Britain in the coming days. A dramatic shift in the UK’s weather patterns is on the horizon. The formerly category 2 hurricane, now downgraded to a tropical storm, continues to batter Bermuda with high winds and substantial storm surges, leading to potential life-threatening flooding by Saturday morning.
The storm is currently being scrutinised by forecasters as it approaches the North Atlantic. Concerns are growing that severe weather may impact the UK next week. As a result, the Met Office has already begun warnings for robust wind and heavy rains starting Wednesday evening.
Deputy Chief Meteorologist at the Met Office, David Oliver, advised: “The most likely scenario is for a period of unsettled weather from Wednesday, especially in the north and west with heavy rain and strong winds possible, whilst it may be warmer and less wet towards the southeast. As always, keep an eye on the most up-to-date forecast for the latest.”
Furthermore, recent maps by WXCharts have led to reports from the Express indicating that much of Britain, particularly from the Midlands upwards, lies directly in the path of the oncoming tropical storm. Forecasts predict powerful gusts possibly reaching up to 83mph, with exposed coastal areas bracing for the most significant impact.
It is worth noting that winds exceeding 80mph have the potential to be hazardous and cause substantial damage. Storm maps are predicting heavy rain and lightning to sweep across the country, starting Wednesday evening and intensifying by Thursday.
Currently, a weak ridge of high pressure is keeping conditions dry over much of the UK, with only the far north likely to experience some showers through the weekend. With the jet stream positioned over northern Britain and extending into France, we can expect fair weather for the next few days.
Met Office five-day forecast:
– Today and tomorrow: Expect a fine and pleasant weekend for many.
– This Evening and Tonight: Most parts of the UK will stay dry overnight with clear spells, though isolated showers may continue in the breezy northwest. Rural spots could get quite chilly under clear skies.
– Sunday: It’s looking like another delightful day for most, with plenty of warm sunshine. The north, however, will be cloudier and windier with the odd shower, potentially heavy at times.
– Outlook for Monday to Wednesday: Monday will kick off on a dry note, but rain is expected to roll in from the west and spread eastwards by Tuesday. The southeast can anticipate drier conditions from mid-week onwards, while the northwest will continue to face wet and windy weather.
As the UK braces for the impact of Hurricane Ernesto’s remnants, it’s crucial for residents to stay updated on weather warnings and be prepared for potential disruptions in the coming days.
