Mumbles Pier left blackened after blaze that shut the attraction

Mumbles Pier in Wales was closed on Saturday due to a fire that occurred in the early hours of the morning. The alarm was raised at 3.52am, prompting the dispatch of fire crews from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service to the scene. Fortunately, there were no reports of any injuries resulting from the blaze.

As a fire crew remained at the pier on Saturday, parts of the attraction were closed off to the public. A statement on the Mumbles Pier Facebook page informed visitors that the site, including the Amusements, Big Wheel, Cafe, and Copperfish, would remain closed for the day. However, On the Rocks restaurant remained open for business.

Fisherman Chris Faulder from Gorseinon, Swansea, mentioned witnessing a lot of smoke and a burning smell in the area around 4 am. By the time Rob O’Shea arrived at the scene, several fire crews were still present, and smoke could be seen coming out of the end of the arcade block, indicating the extent of the damage caused by the fire.

Support poured in for the affected businesses, with members of the Mumbles community expressing love and well-wishes for the owners and staff. This incident is a stark reminder of a similar fire in 2022 that devastated parts of Mumbles Pier, including the destruction of Cinderella’s nightclub and the Copperfish restaurant.

Despite the challenges posed by the recent fire, firefighters managed to prevent its spread to other areas of the pier. The amusement arcade, Beach Hut cafe, RNLI base, and the pier itself were reportedly unaffected, and there were no injuries reported.

While the exact cause of the fire at Mumbles Pier is still under investigation, stakeholders and the community will be eagerly awaiting updates on the restoration efforts and any plans for reopening the affected parts of this beloved attraction.
