A murder investigation has been launched after a man died following being trapped in a burning building in Wigan. Greater Manchester Police responded to a call at approximately 6.40 am on Wednesday regarding a man trapped due to a fire at a property on Dumbarton Green. The man, in his 40s, was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and unfortunately passed away later. A 48-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and grievous bodily harm in connection with the incident, which is being treated as a suspected arson attack.
Detective Chief Inspector Nicola McCulloch of the force’s major incident team expressed condolences to the victim’s family and friends and assured that they believed the incident to be isolated with no broader threat to the public. The investigation is in its early stages, with suspicions pointing towards an arson attack that led to the tragic death of the man. Residents in the area of Dumbarton Green have been urged to come forward if they have any information about the incident on Tuesday and Wednesday during the early morning hours.
