Notably, Rankmore had 18 previous convictions for various offenses, including drug-related charges since his youth. His last conviction, in 2021, led to a four-year prison sentence for robbery. Despite being out on licence at the time of the drug dealing incident, Rankmore found himself back in familiar surroundings at the hostel, reconnecting with his previous associates. During the sentencing, Judge Daniel Williams acknowledged Rankmore’s guilty pleas and sentenced him to 40 months in prison.
