Llanelli Half Marathon: Road Closures, Parking, and Everything You Need to Know
Excitement is building in Llanelli as the town prepares for the annual half marathon and 10k run this Sunday, February 16. Organised by Front Runner Events, this event is a highlight for fitness enthusiasts and community members alike. This year, the event will start and finish at Festival Fields next to the coast, a change from past editions which began at Parc y Scarlets.
The half marathon has a longstanding tradition of attracting runners, while the 10k run, introduced in 2024, offers a newer challenge. The route will predominantly follow the flat terrain of the Millennium Coastal Path, promising picturesque views along the way. Tash Smith, managing director of Front Runner Events, expressed enthusiasm for the event, highlighting the dedicated planning and year-round effort that goes into making it a success.
Whether you’re a participant, spectator, or local resident, here’s everything you need to know about the 2025 Tata Steel Llanelli Half Marathon and 10k. The Half Marathon will kick off at 9am, followed by the 10k run at 9.30am at Festival Fields in Llanelli. The venue is conveniently located just off the A484, providing easy access for all attendees. Visitors arriving by train can reach Festival Fields with a short 10-minute taxi ride from Llanelli train station on Great Western Crescent.
Parking for the event is available at Festival Fields itself, near the start and finish line. To secure a parking spot, participants can pre-book through Carmarthenshire County Council’s management. As roads around the venue are expected to be congested, organisers recommend arriving before 8.15am to avoid delays. During the race, the B4304 will be closed to ensure a safe and traffic-free route, so residents and participants should plan their journeys accordingly.
On the race day, essential facilities such as toilets, catering services, and a post-race massage tent will be open from 7am at Festival Fields. Water stations, provided by Brecon Carreg, will be available along the route and at the finish line, with designated recycle zones for disposal. Runners will be assigned to pacing groups based on predicted finish times, and a dedicated pacing team will support participants in achieving their goals.
Spectators are encouraged to watch the marathon and 10k from various points along the Millennium Coastal Path, with popular viewing spots at Festival Fields, North Dock, and Pwll. The event promises not only a day of sporting achievement but also a celebration of community spirit and dedication. Don’t miss out on this exciting event that showcases the best of Llanelli’s vibrant running scene.
