Foul-mouthed Parrot Causes Stir in Cardiff Pub
A foul-mouthed parrot named Rio has been causing quite a stir at a pub in Cardiff, with his penchant for insulting customers leaving many amused. The two-year-old South American Macaw has become a popular fixture at the Clifton Hotel in Adamsdown, thanks to his X-rated chat learned from regulars.
Rio, who has been living with the pub’s landlady, Kerry Champman, since he was a chick, greets patrons with a string of obscenities that have endeared him to both locals and visitors alike. Despite his colourful language and habit of destroying bobble hats with his beak, Rio has become a beloved part of the pub’s atmosphere.
Ms. Champman purchased Rio from a pet shop when he was just six weeks old and brought him to the pub two years ago when she became the landlady. She fondly describes Rio as initially shy but then developing a “foul mouth” over time. Despite his antics, customers from all over Cardiff make special trips to the pub just to see Rio in action.
Regulars at The Clifton, such as Joe Relvas and Larry Green, have formed bonds with the mischievous parrot. Mr. Relvas, also known as ‘The Parrot Man’, shares how Rio shows affection towards him by getting jealous when he interacts with other customers. Larry Green recounts his Bulldog’s initial confusion at Rio’s presence but notes that they get along fine now.
Despite Rio’s popularity, Landlady Ms. Champman is contemplating moving to a new pub, which would require her to part ways with Rio, valued at around £4,000. She expresses concerns that Rio may not be as well-received at a new location as he is at The Clifton. However, she reassures that Rio will always hold a special place in her heart, describing him as a “stunning, amazing a**hole.”
The charming and cheeky Macaw has become a sensation not just within the pub but also in the local area, with many residents recognising and even interacting with Rio. The unique relationship between Rio and the pub’s clientele has added an extra layer of excitement and fun to the community spirit at The Clifton.
As Rio continues to entertain and delight customers with his quirky personality, the future remains uncertain for this unconventional pub mascot. Nonetheless, one thing is clear – Rio’s presence has brought joy and laughter to all who have had the pleasure of encountering him at The Clifton Hotel in Cardiff.
