Five things this year’s A-level results in Wales tell us – and one thing they don’t

A-level results in Wales show high top grades, a drop in modern language uptake, gender equality, and Welsh language success. Results are not directly comparable to the UK. Top grades remain high with near-identical pass rates to 2019. Some subjects like modern languages saw a decline in entries but high A* grades. Gender saw similar pass rates for girls and boys. Welsh second language had higher top grades than first language. Comparisons with other UK regions and Wales are challenging due to differing exam systems.
