The dog, weighing up to eight stone, managed to escape from Allison’s home due to a lack of a gate in the backyard. On October 7 last year, as the young girl was exiting her father’s car, the XL Bully approached her aggressively, growling. The situation quickly escalated as the dog leaped onto the girl’s back, sinking its jaws into her arm.

The victim’s father rushed to her aid, attempting to pry the dog off, but the animal had a strong grip. It took a considerable effort from bystanders to eventually free the girl from the dog’s attack. CCTV footage revealed the harrowing screams of the victim as the dog inflicted serious harm.

Subsequently, the police and ambulance were called to the scene, where initial first aid was provided by a nurse. The girl was then rushed to the hospital for treatment. The extent of the injury was severe, with the victim requiring transfer to Morriston Hospital in Swansea for further medical attention.

Allison was arrested following the incident and admitted that Rocco The Dude, classified as an XL Bully, had not been registered with the authorities. It was discovered that the dog was a prohibited breed, leading to the decision to euthanise the animal due to its dangerous nature.

During the court proceedings, the victim’s statement highlighted the traumatic impact of the attack, expressing fears about the physical and emotional repercussions. The judge condemned Allison’s negligence, stating that the incident could have been prevented if proper precautions had been taken to restrain the dog.

As a result of his actions, Justin Allison was sentenced to three years in prison and was banned from owning a dog for a decade. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of responsible pet ownership and the potential consequences of failing to control dangerous animals.

In response to the incident, Detective Chief Inspector Virginia Davies of Gwent Police emphasised the need for vigilance and adherence to regulations concerning animal control to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future. The community rallied around the victim, offering support and assistance during her recovery process.

This distressing event underscores the significance of enforcing laws related to dog ownership and ensuring the safety of both the public and animals. It serves as a cautionary tale about the serious implications of irresponsible pet care and the critical need for accountability in such situations.
