A rare Welsh rugby jersey, once belonging to Bryan Richards, a former fly half for the Welsh rugby union team in the 1960s, has been restored to its former glory, moving his relatives to tears on a recent episode of BBC’s The Repair Shop.
The jersey, steeped in history, was brought to the show by Lloyd Richards and his wife Karen, after it had suffered a laundry mishap that left a family member “mortified”. Bryan Richards, Lloyd’s father, was a celebrated figure who played a significant role in Welsh rugby, earning his first and only cap against France in 1960 at Cardiff Arms Park. Known as an ‘electrifying player’, Bryan donned the No 6 shirt, a departure from the traditional fly half’s number 10.
During the show, Lloyd shared fond memories of his father’s rugby career, underscoring Bryan’s humble nature and his impact on the sport. Sadly, Bryan had passed away in December 2023, making the restoration of his beloved jersey even more poignant for his family as a way to preserve his legacy.
