Welsh activists take responsibility for vandalising English names on road signs in Denbighshire. Bilingual signs with English names like “St Asaph”, “Ruthin” and “Denbigh” were defaced to highlight the Welsh names – Llanelwy, Rhuthun, and Dinbych. The Free Wales Army emblem was added to one sign, and a sticker asking “Where is the Welsh?” was put on another. The group, Mudiad Eryr Wen, advocating for Welsh independence and language preservation, say removing imposed English names from road signs is necessary to restore Wales’ linguistic heritage. They aim to eliminate English names from all Welsh road signs.
