Shoppers see food prices rise for first time in over a year – but beans are cheaper

Grocery prices have risen by 1.8% in August compared to last year, ending a year-long downward trend. While prices increased for 182 products, the cost of 89 items decreased. Notably, kitchen towels and baked beans are now 7% and 5% cheaper, respectively. Consumers are utilising store promotions to mitigate rising prices. Sales of beer, wine, nuts, crisps, ice cream, and burgers saw a significant increase during events like the Euros final and Olympics. Sainsbury’s and Tesco have seen market share gains, with Ocado continuing as the fastest-growing grocer.
