‘I went for an eye test and no I have been told I have 18 months left to live’

Michael Sixsmith, 61, was given a devastating prognosis of potentially having only 12 months to live due to an incurable liver cancer diagnosis following an eye test in September 2023. Initially visiting the optician for new glasses after experiencing headaches, Michael’s eye examination revealed a cataract and later, a non-aggressive uveal melanoma. Despite undergoing surgery to remove the melanoma, subsequent tests revealed the cancer had spread to his liver, rendering it incurable. With NHS treatment offering limited success rates, Michael is now seeking private treatment costing £50,000 and has started a fundraising campaign.
