South Wales Police stated that Jamie Laver, aged 30, was captured following a social media campaign and the use of retrospective facial recognition (RFR). According to the police, Laver had broken into residences and apartments in the Roath and Splott areas of Cardiff. Among his thefts were a 72-inch television from student accommodation and precious jewellery from a grandmother’s home. Laver was captured on CCTV using a bank card stolen during a burglary at the Co-op on Splott Road on April 22, 2024. With his identity unknown, detectives reached out to their Facebook followers for assistance in May 2024. Several individuals identified Laver, a suspect previously known to Avon and Somerset Police, and RFR confirmed the match. Consequently, Laver was arrested, charged, and later admitted guilt to five burglaries, criminal damage, and theft.
