Brits are seeking a dose of ‘Vitamin Sea’ this winter following the coolest summer in a decade, as reported by Wales Online. A recent study conducted by the Post Office has revealed a surge in the popularity of winter sun holiday destinations, with 33 percent of individuals now opting for a sunny getaway during the winter months rather than in the summer.

The study highlighted that 62 percent of Brits felt let down by the British summer this year, with 70 percent expressing a longing for warmer days during the winter. Despite the lack of sunshine over the summer, a concerning 49 percent of Brits admit to not taking vitamin D supplements, with 35 percent stating they suffer from seasonal affective disorder.

Winter is not a favourite season for many, with 61 percent of Brits expressing a dislike for the cold months. Common winter woes included dark mornings, heating bills, icy surfaces, and the struggle of getting out of a warm bed into a cold house. As a result, 75 percent have contemplated seeking winter sun escapes between November and February.

The study also highlighted generational differences in holiday preferences, with Gen Zers three times more likely than baby boomers to spend Christmas in sunnier destinations. The top winter holiday spots in Europe included the Canary Islands, Crete, and Cyprus, while destinations like the Maldives and Hawaii were favored for long-haul winter getaways.

One of the key attractions of winter sun holidays, as identified by the study, included escaping the cold weather, soaking up sunlight for health benefits, and enjoying longer days. However, despite the increasing trend of winter sun vacations, a staggering 72 percent of Brits admit to not purchasing travel insurance for their trips.

Post Office’s Head of Travel and Protection, Paul Paddock, emphasized the importance of travel insurance, stressing its role in covering unexpected expenses and providing peace of mind during vacations. He urged holidaymakers to carefully review their policies to avoid costly surprises.
