Local Welsh Brownies stepped up to help their community in Pontypridd after Storm Bert wreaked havoc in the area, causing flooding that affected families and businesses. The group of 20 young girls, aged between seven and ten, had been preparing to make their Brownie promise in front of their parents when the community centre they were meant to meet at was being used to store supplies for flood victims.
Instead of cancelling their session, the organisers of the 4th Pontypridd Brownies, Carlie Logan and Claire Blackburn, decided to rally the girls to make over 100 packed lunches for those impacted by the flooding. Carlie mentioned, “They’re so proud of themselves. It was gutting for them not to be able to do their promise but they were so excited to donate food and put it all together.”
The Brownies spent the evening diligently making sandwiches, determined to provide as much help as they could. In the end, they managed to produce an impressive 107 packed lunches that will be distributed at the community centre to aid those in need. Additionally, all the Brownies will receive an achievement badge for their commendable efforts.
Girlguiding Cymru commended the young Brownies on their kindness, compassion, and willingness to assist others during a time of need. County Commissioner of Girlguiding Central Glamorgan, Julie, expressed immense pride in the girls for their selfless actions. The heartwarming gesture of the Brownies did not go unnoticed, garnering recognition and admiration from their community.
The initiative taken by these young girls showcases the strength and unity within the Pontypridd community during challenging times. The support and aid they provided to those affected by the storm demonstrate the importance of coming together and helping one another during times of crisis. The selfless act of the Brownies serves as an inspiration to everyone, highlighting the impact even the youngest members of society can have when they work together towards a common goal.
It is heartening to see the younger generation displaying such compassion and empathy towards those in need, reflecting the values of kindness and generosity instilled in them through organisations like the Brownies. Their dedication and efforts to make a difference in their community serve as a shining example for others to follow, illustrating the power of collective action and goodwill.
As the community in Pontypridd continues to navigate the aftermath of Storm Bert, the spirit of unity and support exemplified by the Brownies is a beacon of hope. Their commitment to assisting their fellow residents in times of crisis reinforces the importance of solidarity and kindness, showcasing the positive impact small acts of kindness can have on a community facing adversity.
In a world where challenges often seem insurmountable, the actions of these young Brownies serve as a reminder that even the smallest gestures of kindness can make a significant difference. As the Pontypridd community comes together to recover and rebuild in the wake of the storm, the spirit of generosity and compassion demonstrated by these Brownies will continue to inspire and uplift those around them.
