Nine-year-old hailed as a superhero after stopping a three-tonne van with his bare hands
In a remarkable display of bravery and strength, nine-year-old Kameron Hunter from Nelson, Lancashire, was dubbed a superhero after he managed to halt his neighbour’s three-tonne van from rolling down the street and potentially causing havoc.
The extraordinary incident occurred while young Kameron was playing football outside his home and noticed his neighbour’s Vauxhall Vivaro starting to move down the street. Acting swiftly, he abandoned his game and ran to the front of the van, attempting to stop it by placing his hands on the front grill.
Despite the risk involved, Kameron persisted, holding onto the moving vehicle for 10 seconds until he successfully brought it to a halt. His quick thinking and courage prevented the van from colliding with parked cars or a nearby lamp post, sparing potential damage and harm.
Kameron’s mother, Lyndsay Hunter, initially scolded her son for his risky actions, fearing for his safety. However, upon viewing the footage captured on July 21st, she was amazed by his exceptional strength and proud of his selfless act of protecting their neighbour’s property.
The owners of the van, Matt Sharples and Helen Reavley, expressed their gratitude by presenting Kameron with a £50 gaming voucher and a superhero cape to honour his heroic deeds. The couple, who run Rees Windows and Doors, were incredibly thankful for Kameron’s actions, acknowledging that his intervention had prevented a potential disaster.
Since the incident, Kameron has been hailed as ‘the superhero’ of the street, with a TikTok video of the event garnering praise from thousands online. Reflecting on the experience, Kameron shared his initial fear and shaking hands but highlighted his concern for his neighbours’ well-being as his primary motivation for intervening.
Lyndsay, amazed by her son’s strength and compassion, recounted her astonishment at witnessing Kameron’s selfless act. She emphasised his big heart and sense of responsibility, commending him for prioritising others’ safety over his own concerns.
The van’s brake fault was identified as the cause of the unexpected movement, catching Matt and Helen off guard while they were still inside their home. Helen expressed disbelief at Kameron’s feat and credited his intervention with preventing further damage and potential injuries.
