Lucy Nutley, 41, has been adorning her house with festive lights for the past nine years, but this year’s display has taken things to a whole new level. To make the display even more special, the Nutley family is not just spreading Christmas cheer but is also raising money for a charity close to their hearts.
Lucy shared that her love for Christmas has only grown over the years, and her children share the same enthusiasm for the festive season. The display includes a variety of decorations collected over time, with new additions each year. Notable features this year are a 16ft inflatable Grinch and a large Santa light above the front door, which alone cost £400. While the decorations have incurred a significant cost over the years, Lucy finds joy in creating a colourful and vibrant spectacle that brings smiles to people’s faces.
Despite the elaborate outdoor decorations, Lucy mentioned that the inside of her home is just as festive, with multiple Christmas trees brightening up the living room. The Nutley family’s Christmas display has garnered unprecedented attention this year, drawing visitors not just from the local area but also from neighbouring towns like Bargoed, Treharris, Pontypool, and Ebbw Vale. The family has even started organising meet and greet sessions with characters like the Grinch to raise funds for the RCT Heart Heroes charity.
RCT Heart Heroes is a local charity that provides CPR and defibrillator training, maintains public access to defibrillators in Rhondda Cynon Taf, and supports initiatives like a food bank and an annual toy drive for underprivileged children. The charity holds special significance for Lucy, as it aims to prevent tragedies like the one her family experienced when her father passed away due to a heart attack in the absence of a defibrillator.
Visitors to the Nutley Christmas house are encouraged to contribute to the fundraising efforts for RCT Heart Heroes, enabling the charity to continue its vital work within the community. The family has set up a dedicated fundraising page where guests can find information about planned appearances of characters like Santa, reindeer, and elves for photo opportunities.
