Eisteddfod begins process to strip Huw Edwards of his Gorsedd honour

Eisteddfod Initiates Process to Remove Huw Edwards of His Gorsedd Honour

The National Eisteddfod has started the procedure to strip former BBC presenter Huw Edwards of his membership in the Gorsedd of the Bards. Edwards admitted to three counts of making indecent images of children. He will be sentenced next month after pleading guilty to the offences at Westminster Magistrates Court on July 31. The 62-year-old presenter had 377 images, and some involved children as young as seven. Edwards faces the potential revocation of honours and accolades, including his membership in the Gorsedd, a prestigious Welsh recognition for contributions to various fields.

Pressure Mounts to Remove Edwards from Honorary Positions

Cardiff University and Bangor University are reviewing Edwards’ honorary positions following his admissions. Buildings, such as Cardiff Castle, have removed connections to Edwards. The induction into the Gorsedd is a significant honour usually awarded for achievements and dedication to Welsh culture. Edwards will be sentenced on September 16 at Westminster Magistrates Court.
