Are you a last-minute shopper or someone who plans ahead for Christmas gifts? A recent survey of 2,000 adults who celebrate Christmas has shed some light on these two types of holiday shoppers. Surprisingly, one in five individuals have already completed their gift wrapping even before December began.
The survey revealed that a third of participants consider themselves early birds, getting their shopping done well in advance, while 18% prefer to leave it to the days leading up to Christmas. To help you determine which category you fall into, a quiz has been created to identify if you’re a ‘Last Minute Louise’ or an ‘Organised Ollie’. Questions about when you start shopping, the effort you put into finding gifts, and the time spent on it will give you the answer.
The research was commissioned by Toblerone Truffles as part of their ‘Add a diamond’ campaign. It found that 34% of people feel that the festive season sneaks up on them every year. For those who tend to procrastinate, 46% blame indecision on what to buy, while 28% attribute it to being too busy with work. Consequently, a quarter have resorted to buying gift cards hastily instead of more thoughtful presents from corner shops due to last-minute shopping.
On the other hand, those who finish their shopping early believe it reduces stress (56%) and helps avoid missing out on items due to stock shortages (42%). Susanne Nowak from Toblerone suggests that everyone has different approaches to Christmas shopping, with some enjoying the thrill of a last-minute spree while others prefer to get it done early to fully enjoy the season without the shopping burden.
Furthermore, the study revealed that almost two-thirds of respondents have personalised a gift for someone, with 46% seeing it as a unique touch and 45% valuing the extra thought and effort it represents. Additionally, 37% believe it creates lasting sentimental value. To assist the 15% who rated themselves as ‘poor’ gift wrappers, Nowak has put together a wrapping guide. She emphasised that regardless of wrapping skills, adding chocolate can elevate a gift.
In summary, the holiday season brings out different shopping styles in individuals – from those who meticulously plan ahead to those who thrive on the excitement of last-minute shopping. Whatever your approach may be, the goal remains the same: to spread joy and show appreciation to our loved ones through thoughtful gifts during this festive time.
