Women share the amount of anxiety they have over period leaks – and it’s huge

A recent survey has unveiled the overwhelming anxiety experienced by women over period leaks, with a staggering 81% admitting to feeling anxious about potential leaks during menstruation. In a survey involving 1,000 menstruating women, it was found that 65% also experience discomfort when using pads. As a result, a massive 86% of women take precautionary measures to avoid any ‘period mishaps’.

These precautions range from avoiding light-coloured clothing to planning frequent toilet breaks for pad checks. The survey further revealed that 64% of women consider it normal to adjust their daily routines to prevent leaks and pad discomfort during their periods. To combat these issues, one-third of the women surveyed always carry an extra pair of underwear, and the majority opt to wear dark clothing during menstruation as a preventive measure.

For women using pads, discomfort may arise from the pad bunching up or not staying in place correctly. This leads to women having to frequently check or readjust their pads (44%) and modify their walking or sitting posture (25%). To prevent leaks, 25% of women resort to using multiple pads simultaneously, while one-third avoid sitting on light-coloured furniture during their period.

The study, conducted by Always, coincides with the launch of their FlexProtect range featuring SmartFoam technology. As part of the campaign, the brand is advocating for a new era of period protection and encouraging women to feel comfortable and confident during menstruation. A brand representative expressed the desire for women to have reliable protection that offers maximum comfort during their periods.

In an effort to normalise the conversation around periods, Always is promoting suitable solutions that provide the right protection for women. The brand’s latest initiative involves setting up a giant bounce pad at Westfield London to raise awareness about period protection and comfort. By initiating this campaign, Always aims to empower girls and women to manage their periods confidently and comfortably.

The survey results highlight the significant impact that period leaks and discomfort have on women’s daily lives. With a vast majority feeling anxious about leaks and discomfort during menstruation, it is evident that there is a pressing need for better period protection solutions. By shedding light on these concerns and encouraging open discussions about menstrual health, brands like Always are striving to create a more comfortable and confident experience for women during their periods.

Women’s experiences with period leaks and discomfort are complex and varied, but the overarching message is clear – there is a growing demand for reliable and comfortable period protection. As more women speak out about their anxieties and challenges during menstruation, it is crucial for brands and healthcare providers to listen and develop solutions that cater to the diverse needs of menstruating individuals. By addressing these concerns head-on, we can work towards a future where period leaks and discomfort are no longer a source of anxiety for women.
