A recent incident at a new Welsh restaurant has left management dismayed after two men allegedly left without paying their bill on the opening night. The Welsh House in Carmarthen, which had just opened its doors to customers, found themselves in a difficult situation when a table of two men accumulated a significant bill amounting to £155.60 and then left without settling it.
The men had ordered starters, two fillet steaks, two bottles of Malbec red wine, and Irish whiskey coffees before departing the premises without making payment. Staff only discovered the unpaid bill after the men had left the restaurant. Following the incident, the restaurant shared an appeal on social media, hoping that the men would come forward to settle their dues, believing it may have been an honest mistake.
In an effort to resolve the matter, CCTV footage of the two men leaving the restaurant at 9.47 pm on the opening night was released by The Welsh House. The footage shows the two men inside the restaurant near the exit door, engaging in conversation before calmly leaving the premises. Subsequent footage captured them walking down St Catherine’s Walk.
The incident has since been reported to Dyfed-Powys Police, who are currently investigating the matter with no updates as of the reporting date. Despite public appeals and media coverage, the individuals in question have not come forward to address or rectify the situation.
The restaurant management expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support received from the community and highlighted the challenges faced by the hospitality sector, where profit margins are slim, and such incidents can have a significant impact on businesses. While the restaurant refrained from publicly naming the individuals involved, they emphasised the importance of settling the bill to bring closure to the event.
This incident is a reminder of the financial strain faced by businesses in the hospitality industry and the impact of such actions on their operations. As the investigation continues, The Welsh House remains hopeful for a resolution and urges the individuals to come forward and settle the outstanding bill to conclude the matter amicably.
