‘I was so scared, I didn’t think they were going to stop’ feared woman brutally attacked by three

In a terrifying and brutal attack, a woman was left fearing for her life after being assaulted by three individuals who broke into her home. The victim, Lesley Knott, described one of the attackers, Tia Griffiths, as a “surrogate daughter,” highlighting the emotional complexity of the situation. The incident occurred on May 10 in Aberdare when Griffiths, accompanied by Anna Hicks and Geraint Evans, launched a vicious assault on Ms Knott.

The court heard that the attack stemmed from a fallout between Griffiths and Ms Knott, leading to Griffiths and Hicks forcefully entering the victim’s home. Griffiths physically assaulted Ms Knott, punching and kicking her before wielding a knife and threatening her. The victim, in a state of shock and fear, tried to defend herself but was overpowered by the attackers.

The situation escalated as Griffiths accused Ms Knott of assaulting her deceased mother, a claim the victim denied. The victim, feeling helpless and in danger, pleaded with her attackers to stop. Fortunately, Evans intervened, prompting Ms Knott to escape and seek help from neighbours who contacted the authorities.

Following their arrest, it was revealed that Hicks was found with Valium tablets, while Evans was in possession of stolen items belonging to Ms Knott. Griffiths, with a history of criminal convictions, including violent offences, was sentenced to 30 months in prison. Hicks received a 27-month sentence, and Evans an eight-month sentence, all three also subjected to restraining orders.

The impact of the attack on Ms Knott was described in a victim personal statement, outlining the profound fear and trauma she continues to experience. The ordeal has left her feeling unsafe in her own home, constantly on edge, and plagued by nightmares of further violence. The court acknowledged the severity of the attack, emphasising the breach of trust and the violation of what should have been a safe space for the victim.

In sentencing, the judge addressed the malicious intent behind the attack, highlighting the betrayal of the care and kindness previously extended to Griffiths. The perpetrators’ histories of addiction and personal struggles were considered in the sentencing process, shedding light on the complex factors contributing to their actions.

As the victim continues to recover from the physical and emotional scars of the assault, the community grapples with the shocking nature of the crime. The case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of violence and the importance of seeking justice for victims of such heinous acts.
