Plans have been unveiled to demolish old blocks of flats in Merthyr Tydfil and construct 40 new flats in their place. The proposal involves the redevelopment of Cefn Isaf flats located in Pontycapel Road, Cefn Coed. The project includes demolishing the current buildings and erecting new ones to accommodate 40 flats. If the application is approved, two new buildings will be constructed, comprising 25 one-bedroom flats and 15 two-bedroom flats.
According to the planning report, the existing Cefn Isaf flats are currently unoccupied and in a state of disrepair due to structural issues. The proposed development aligns with the Local Development Plan’s aim to encourage new developments within primary growth areas. The report highlighted that the site currently houses 34 residential units of varying sizes and the new development would consist of a total of 40 residential units.

The project is intended to be managed by Merthyr Valleys Homes, a registered social landlord, and aims to revitalise a previously disused site.
