Butterflies, toddlers and tennis players among beneficiaries of grant funding in Bridgend

Beneficiaries of Grant Funding in Bridgend

Several town and community council projects in Bridgend County Borough have received grant funding from the Bridgend County Borough Council. This funding is part of the Town and Community Council Capital Grant scheme, with approximately £61,000 allocated towards seven different projects across the area.

The approval for this funding was given at a cabinet meeting on October 22. Among the successful projects in this round of funding is the Porthcawl Town Council, which will be establishing a natural habitat and ecosystem for butterflies. Another project receiving funding is the Coity Higher Community Council, which will be creating a toddler and infant play area in Llys Gwyn Pendre.

Earlier in 2024, three other projects were also approved for funding, though one application from Llangynwyd Middle Community Council was rejected. The report presented at the meeting was well received by members, with Councillor Eugene Caparros noting the importance of town and community councils in supporting local ambitions.

The list of successful bids in the latest round of funding includes:
– £10,000 for Porthcawl Town Council to establish a natural habitat and ecosystem for butterflies.
– £4,000 for Pyle Community Council to install dropped kerbs at nine identified sites in Pyle and Kenfig Hill.
– £8,000 for Cefn Cribwr Community Council to refurbish Tennis Courts at Cae Gof, Cefn Cribwr.
– £13,677 for Coity Higher Community Council to create a toddler and infant play area in Llys Gwyn Pendre.
– £5,750 for Coity Higher Community Council to refurbish a path between Coity Castle & St Mary’s Church.
– £15,257 for Garw Valley Community Council to replace a retaining wall, steps, and handrail at the Strand, Blaengarw.
– £4,485 for St Brides Minor Community Council for lighting on a footpath in Bryncethin.

The council’s support for these projects reflects a commitment to enhancing community spaces and amenities for the benefit of residents. These initiatives aim to create more inclusive and engaging environments for various groups, from butterflies to toddlers and tennis players across Bridgend County Borough.

As grant funding continues to be allocated to worthwhile projects, the local community can look forward to the positive impact these developments will have on enhancing the quality of life in Bridgend.
