Well-known Welsh venue cancels weddings as it announces plans for future

A renowned Welsh wedding venue has made the decision to cancel weddings as it prepares to undergo a significant transformation into a luxurious tourism destination. The Oldwalls Collection has announced plans to redevelop its flagship venue, Oldwalls Gower, into a five-star “luxury staycation destination” by 2026. This transformation will offer additional accommodation options for guests attending events at Fairyhill and other venues across the scenic Gower region.

The company reassured that it will be “business as usual” at Oldwalls Gower until the redevelopment commences. In a statement released on their website, the Oldwalls Collection expressed their excitement about the upcoming changes and the opportunities they will bring. They highlighted their dedication to delivering exceptional standards for the weddings scheduled for 2025, before transitioning into the new luxury destination the following year.

To accommodate couples with weddings booked at Oldwalls Gower for 2026 and beyond, the company has proactively contacted them with various options. These options include bringing the wedding forward to 2025 at Oldwalls, transferring the booking to Fairyhill with a cost freeze, switching to Sant Ffraed House, or requesting a full refund. With Fairyhill located just minutes away, the company anticipates many couples will opt for this convenient alternative.

Alongside the official announcement on their website, the news was shared on the Oldwalls Collection’s social media platforms, sparking both excitement and concern among their audience. While many expressed support for the new plans, some individuals raised issues about the timing of the decision and the impact on their wedding arrangements. Managing Director Andrew Hole acknowledged this impact, emphasizing that providing over 18 months’ notice was intended to give couples ample time to consider the available options.

This development follows a significant investment earlier this year, where Oldwalls Gower aimed to create the country’s “first ever all-inclusive multi-day wedding experience”. The venue collaborated with renowned interior designer Elizabeth Styles to revamp its look with a bohemian-chic scheme, aligning with the luxurious standards set by its sister venues, Fairyhill and Sant Ffraed House.

As the Oldwalls Collection redirects its focus on enhancing Fairyhill and Sant Ffraed House, the decision to transform Oldwalls Gower reflects their commitment to continuous innovation and evolution. By diversifying the offerings at their founding location, the company aims to explore new opportunities and elevate the guest experience across all its venues.
