16 affordable homes set to be built on former reservoir near Bridgend

Plans have been approved to build 16 affordable homes on the site of a former reservoir near Bridgend, Wales. The decision was made by the local authority’s planning committee on October 31, paving the way for the development in Cefn Cribwr. The project, proposed by Valleys to Coast Housing Association, will see the construction of a mix of one to four-bedroom properties on 0.4 hectares of land in Cefn Road.

The development will include eight one-bedroom flats, two two-bedroom houses, four three-bedroom houses, and two four-bedroom houses, along with a new vehicular access point. Despite concerns raised by some residents about possible ground contamination, housing density, and parking availability, council officers recommended the plans for approval. They deemed the project compliant with planning policies, ensuring adequate housing density and infrastructure support.

Some residents expressed worries about potential privacy issues with neighboring properties and the overlooking of gardens. However, these concerns were not seen as significant enough to warrant rejection. Following discussions, the plans were unanimously approved by committee members, with conditions in place to monitor and address any contamination or ground-related issues.

The local community can anticipate the commencement of construction works on the site formerly occupied by a reservoir, offering much-needed affordable housing options in the area. The approval marks a positive step towards addressing housing needs and revitalizing unused land for the benefit of the community and future homeowners.
