Strictly stars pay tribute to professional dancer after death, aged 44

A beloved professional dancer from the hit TV show Strictly Come Dancing, Robin Windsor, is being fondly remembered by stars of the show following his untimely death at the age of 44. The Strictly community came together to pay tribute to Windsor in a special show titled “Robin Windsor: The Final Act”, where judge Anton Du Beke honoured him as “a human Glitterball”. The event, hosted by Du Beke and Emmerdale actor Lisa Riley, featured performances by Strictly professional dancers Lauren Oakley, Kai Widdrington, Aljaz Skorjanec, and others.

Windsor, who passed away earlier this year, was praised for his contributions to Strictly Come Dancing between 2010 and 2013. Du Beke likened him to the iconic Strictly trophy, while Riley expressed her wishes for Windsor to continue shining in heaven. The evening included emotional performances such as Skorjanec dancing to A-Ha’s “Take On Me” with his wife Janette Manrara, and Beverley Knight singing as dancer Robbie Kmetoni took the stage.

The tribute show was organised by dancers Pasha Kovalev and Anya Garnis with the approval of Windsor’s family, with all proceeds going to mental health charity Sane, a cause Windsor supported as an ambassador. Former Strictly contestants like Deborah Meaden and Angela Rippon made special appearances, highlighting Windsor’s impact and legacy on the show.

The event also featured stars like singer Marisha Wallace, dancers Joanne Clifton, Vincent Simone, and singer Lance Ellington. Oakley, who filled in for an unwell Amy Dowden on a recent episode of Strictly, delivered a stunning performance, scoring one of the highest marks of the season. The show concluded with a touching video montage showcasing Windsor’s life journey, from his early years to his time on Strictly.

Riley emphasised the importance of open communication and looking out for friends, particularly in challenging times, while Du Beke encouraged everyone, especially men, to speak up and seek support when needed. Windsor’s legacy extends beyond Strictly, as he was also known for winning the 2011 Children In Need special and appearing in various Christmas specials.

Windsor’s impact was also felt during the Legends of The Dance Floor tour, where fellow professional dancers celebrated his life and shared memories of his remarkable career. Sane, the chosen charity for the tribute show, provides vital support and resources for individuals affected by mental health conditions, embodying Windsor’s commitment to giving back and making a difference.

The outpouring of love and admiration for Robin Windsor serves as a testament to his enduring influence and the lasting impression he left on the Strictly Come Dancing family. His spirit and talent will continue to inspire dancers and fans alike, embodying the true essence of the dance floor and the joy of performing.
