A mother from Worcestershire, Natasha Middleton, is issuing an urgent plea to parents after her daughter, Maisie Brackley, almost died from choking on a 35p lolly. Natasha took Maisie, aged seven, to a local sweet shop as a reward for doing well at school, where she purchased a Dip Dab lolly. Within minutes of consuming the lolly, it became lodged in Maisie’s throat, causing her to turn blue and become unresponsive. Natasha’s partner, Daniel Brackley, had to perform the Heimlich manoeuvre before rushing Maisie to the hospital.
Thankfully, Maisie survived the harrowing incident and is now recovering at home. Natasha has since banned all lollipops in their household and took to Facebook to urge other parents to be cautious about the sweets they give to children, especially during the upcoming Halloween season. She emphasises the importance of basic first aid skills and vigilance when it comes to sweet consumption to prevent similar emergencies.
Natasha describes the terrifying moment when Maisie choked on the lolly, highlighting the importance of swift action and parental awareness. Despite the traumatic ordeal, Natasha remains grateful that her daughter is alive and stresses the need for parents to be proactive in safeguarding their children from such risks. She encourages families to thoroughly check any sweets received during Halloween and to dispose of anything they deem unsafe.
In addition to sharing her personal experience, Natasha is advocating for parents to educate themselves on basic first aid, as quick intervention can make a life-saving difference in emergencies. She hopes that by sharing her story, other families will take heed of the dangers posed by certain types of candies and be prepared to handle similar situations effectively. The incident has left Natasha with a sense of guilt and a resolve to be more cautious in the future, underscoring the importance of prevention and preparedness in child safety.
