A drug dealer from Aberystwyth has been sentenced to 45 months in prison for buying supplies of heroin and cocaine. Nicholas Walker, 62, was caught with almost 15g of heroin and 26g of cocaine when police intercepted the car he was travelling in towards Aberystwyth on the A4120 road. It was revealed in court that Walker’s driver had taken the opportunity to “look at sofas in Trago Mills” while Walker secured his stash.
Walker, who has 12 previous drug-related offenses on his record, pleaded guilty to possession of heroin and cocaine with intent to supply. His barrister described him as part of a “group of long-term drug users” in Aberystwyth who spent all their money on drugs, leading a “tragic existence.” The court heard that Walker’s driver was paid £17 to drive him to Merthyr, where Walker bought the drugs before being intercepted by police.
Despite his barrister acknowledging that a custodial sentence was inevitable, Walker expressed concerns for his elderly mother whom he cared for. The judge, Paul Thomas KC, noted that Walker had a history of drug-related offenses dating back to 1985 and imposed a 45-month prison sentence, with the possibility of serving half in custody before being released on licence.
Walker’s case highlights the ongoing issue of drug misuse and dealing in communities, and serves as a reminder of the consequences individuals face when involved in such criminal activities. The court’s decision to issue a significant prison sentence sends a clear message about the seriousness of drug-related offenses and aims to deter others from engaging in similar behaviour. Walker’s conviction serves as a warning about the impacts of drug abuse on individuals and communities, urging for more support and interventions to address addiction and prevent drug-related crimes.
