The Food Standards Agency (FSA) and Food Standards Scotland have issued warnings of wide-ranging product recalls impending in the upcoming days. This alert follows a significant contamination in food production. The FSA has been diligently collaborating with food businesses and Local Authorities to probe the food supply chain for any mustard ingredients that might have been tainted with peanuts. This contamination could present a severe risk, especially to individuals with a severe peanut allergy.
Subsequently, the FGS Ingredients Limited, a food business that imports mustard from India to produce spice products like curry powders, seasonings, and spice blends, has voluntarily recalled all its products containing mustard as a precautionary measure. These spices and blends are incorporated into various items such as ready meals and snacks, leading the FSA to anticipate a series of recalls in the coming days.
Rebecca Sudworth, the Director of Policy at the FSA, highlighted that only products supplied by FGS Ingredients Limited have been impacted, and not all mustard imports from India. She reiterated the advice for individuals with a peanut allergy to refrain from consuming any food containing mustard ingredients until all recalls have been issued.
The FSA continues to stress the importance of vigilance among consumers, particularly those with peanut allergies, urging them to avoid products containing mustard ingredients. Efforts are ongoing to ensure that all affected products are withdrawn and recalled promptly. The agency intends to provide updates on the situation as more information becomes available.
Consumers with food hypersensitivity are encouraged to sign up for allergy alerts to stay informed about potential future recalls. If anyone suspects an allergic reaction linked to the investigation, they are advised to report it to the respective food business and the local authority where the product was purchased.
Several product details have been identified so far in the recall, including Chef Select Takeaway Garlic and Herb Dip, Mr Vikki’s Hot Stuff Chilli Sauce, Favourit Medium Curry Powder, along with various items from Dunnes Stores and Favourit, all with specific pack sizes, batch codes, and best before dates.
In conclusion, the FSA emphasises the significance of staying informed and cautious amidst this food recall situation, ensuring the safety and well-being of all consumers.
