Cardiff Christmas dinner party helps tackle isolation among older and disabled adults

Right at Home Cardiff & Newport hosted the free event to support people struggling with loneliness over the festive period

A Cardiff homecare provider has hosted a Christmas dinner party to help tackle isolation and loneliness over the festive period.

Right at Home Cardiff & Newport, which cares for older and disabled adults in their own homes, welcomed its Clients and their CareGivers, friends and family to the event at Marshfield Village Hall on December 7.

Megan Forshaw, Community Development Manager at Right at Home, was inspired to hold the event after noticing that some Clients had been struggling to socialise and felt isolated.

She said: “Our CareGivers work so hard to meet the daily needs of our Clients, so I was thrilled to be able to contribute to this amazing work by hosting a Christmas meal.

“It was a brilliant success; seeing our Clients engaging with each other, laughing together and enjoying their Christmas lunch was everything I’d hoped for.”

The Christmas dinner party was a free event, which included a two-course meal and drinks. All transport was arranged by Right at Home office staff.

Commenting on the event, Chris, a Client family member, said: “The Christmas dinner myself and Kathleen attended was exceptional; the meal was so well cooked and the atmosphere was very friendly. It was also nice for Kathleen to meet people; she thoroughly enjoyed herself that day. The staff were also very diligent and friendly. Thank you and we look forward to next year.”

Right at Home Cardiff & Newport is an award-winning homecare provider, having been recently named a 5 Star Employer by independent employee engagement specialist, Workbuzz.

The provider was also named a finalist in five categories at the Great British Care Awards, held in Cardiff last month.
