Rhian Mannings, the founder of the Welsh charity 2wish Cymru, has been recognised for her impactful work in supporting bereaved families. The charity was established following the tragic and sudden loss of Rhian’s son and husband in 2012. Since then, 2wish Cymru has been providing immediate and ongoing assistance to families affected by the unexpected loss of a child or young person under 25 years old.
The charity’s support includes memory boxes, emotional and practical assistance, counselling, play therapy, group support, and residential retreats. Collaborating with hospitals and emergency services, 2wish ensures that families facing such a devastating loss are not alone and receive the necessary support to cope with their grief.
Having assisted over 1,000 families across Wales since its inception, Rhian Mannings was honoured with a Pride of Britain award in 2020. Reflecting on the recognition, Rhian expressed gratitude for the acknowledgment, highlighting the importance of raising awareness about sudden bereavement in young individuals.
In the challenging financial climate faced by charities today, Rhian emphasises the significance of donations and funding for organisations like 2wish Cymru. She commends the Pride of Britain Fund for offering a valuable opportunity for smaller charities to receive a much-needed boost.
As part of the 25th-anniversary celebration of the Pride of Britain awards, the Pride of Britain Fund is allocating £100,000 to support local heroes, community groups, and charities nationwide. Grants ranging from £500 to £2,500 are available to assist in furthering the impactful work being done. Applicants can either seek funding for their own initiatives or nominate deserving individuals or groups for support.
The final decision on the allocation of funds will be made by local communities, empowering them to vote for the initiatives they believe are most deserving. This democratic approach ensures that the funding goes to those making a tangible difference in their communities. To apply for funding or nominate a local hero, interested parties can complete an online form.
The Pride of Britain Fund stands as a beacon of hope for organisations like 2wish Cymru, providing a platform to amplify their efforts in helping those in need. By recognising and supporting individuals like Rhian Mannings, who have turned personal tragedy into a source of strength and support for others, the Fund continues to make a meaningful impact in communities across the UK.
