Jet2 Tenerife flight forced to divert for ‘medical assistance’

A Jet2 flight bound for Tenerife had to make an unexpected landing about 300 miles from its intended destination due to a passenger needing “medical assistance”. Flight LS3269 departed from Liverpool John Lennon Airport at around 6:46 am on Tuesday, October 15, before diverting and landing on Porto Santo Island at 11:39 am. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, stayed on the ground for approximately five hours before continuing its journey to Tenerife and arriving at Tenerife South Airport at around 1:30 pm. A representative from Jet2 confirmed the incident, stating to the Liverpool ECHO, “We can confirm that flight LS3269 from Liverpool to Tenerife diverted to Porto Santo on Tuesday (15th October), due to a customer requiring medical assistance. The aircraft subsequently continued its journey to Tenerife.”

This diversion occurred shortly after another Jet2 flight heading to Dalaman had to divert 3,000km to Cologne in Germany on Tuesday evening, October 8. An onboard passenger caused a disruption, leading to their removal in Germany before the flight could proceed to Turkey, arriving three hours behind schedule. According to information from FlightRadar24, the flight took off from Edinburgh on time around 4 pm and was supposed to land in Dalaman at approximately 10:30 pm, but instead took off from Cologne at 9:30 pm, as reported by Edinburgh Live.

These incidents highlight the challenges airlines face when ensuring the safety and well-being of passengers onboard. The necessity to divert flights for medical emergencies or disruptive behavior underscores the importance of preparedness and quick decision-making in such situations.
