UK’s top supermarket for ‘taste and value’ this Christmas named as Tesco and M&S miss out

In the run-up to Christmas, as families across the UK begin planning their festive meals, supermarkets are unveiling their seasonal offerings to cater to the holiday feasts. With an array of tasty treats and accompaniments available, the competition among retailers is fierce to provide the best products for the Christmas table. The annual Christmas Taste Test by Good Housekeeping has declared Aldi as the top UK supermarket for Christmas taste and value in 2024. The testing process involved a rigorous evaluation of 730 products from 98 different brands to determine the standout offerings this year.

Aldi’s Christmas range outshone competitors like Tesco, M&S, and Waitrose, with its Veuve Monsigny Premier Cru Champagne particularly impressing the judges to be crowned the Best Champagne. Priced at £22, Aldi’s champagne surpassed more expensive options from competitors, such as Selfridges and M&S. Additionally, Aldi’s mince pies were lauded for their “soft, flaky pastry” and “sweet, caramelised fruit filling,” earning them the title of the best-tasting mince pies. Priced at just 38p each or £2.29 for a box of six, these have become a festive favourite for those looking for quality at an affordable price.

The accolades continued for Aldi as its Specially Selected Roly Poly Whole Turkey and Ultimate Five-Year Vintage Cheddar Bake were recognised as the Best Whole Turkey and best vegetarian starter, respectively. The supermarket’s Specially Selected Orange and Maple Pudding was also a standout, winning the title for the best flavoured Christmas pudding. With prices starting at £5.99, Aldi offers a wide range of award-winning products to cater to all aspects of the Christmas meal.

Julie Ashfield, managing director of buying at Aldi UK, expressed delight at the recognition received from the Good Housekeeping awards, affirming Aldi’s commitment to providing quality without compromising on affordability during the festive season. This success adds to Aldi’s reputation as the UK’s cheapest supermarket for the 11th consecutive month, as acknowledged by Which?.

Aldi’s triumph in offering exceptional quality and value for Christmas products highlights its commitment to providing customers with a diverse and impressive selection for the holiday season. As households gear up for Christmas celebrations, Aldi stands out as a reliable choice for those seeking top-notch products without exceeding their budget.
