Plans for a new holiday resort featuring 120 high-end lodges have been submitted to Neath Port Talbot Council for review. The proposed site, located on the northern slopes of the Pelenna Forest near Tonna, overlooks the Vale of Neath. The plans were presented to the local planning authority in August by developer, The Urbanists, acting on behalf of Trivselhus UK Holdings Limited. If approved, the development, named Parc Pelenna, could potentially comprise 120 lodges, a leisure building, a swimming pool, a new access road, parking facilities, and associated infrastructure on land off Fairyland Road. The site covers approximately 24.2 hectares of upland area situated 2km from the outskirts of Neath near the B4434. The current land use includes commercial forestry, a former quarry, and grazing land occasionally used for shooting parties.
According to the proposal, the project aims to establish a private leisure development offering holiday lodges and supporting amenities that complement the natural leisure attractions of the Vale of Neath, the nearby Brecon Beacons National Park, and the landscape of the south Wales valleys. The development is designed to cater to the demand for high-end tourism accommodation within an integrated location that respects the local natural and historic assets and special landscape character. This submission follows a pre-planning application earlier in 2024 and previous applications dating back to 2012.
These plans are part of a series of requests for holiday accommodation developments in the Neath Port Talbot area. Other approved projects include a multi-million-pound adventure resort in the Afan Valley and proposals for a large hotel and leisure complex at a country estate between Resolven and Cwmgwrach. The holiday resort development aligns with the region’s efforts to enhance its tourism offerings and attract visitors seeking high-quality accommodation experiences within the natural beauty of the Welsh landscape. Residents and stakeholders in the area will await the council’s decision on the potential new holiday resort as it progresses through the planning process.
