A fitness influencer faced a reprimand on a flight from the UK to Spain due to the smell of her meal. Vanusa Freitas brought her own pre-portioned meal onboard the flight from London but was approached by flight attendants. They informed her that other passengers had been “complaining” about the scent of her protein-rich dish. The 32-year-old, who adheres to a strict diet, shared that the cabin crew even threatened to discard her meal. Vanusa explained, “The flight attendant came to talk to me about the smell being bothersome. I always carry my meal prep with me. Everyone who knows me is aware that I follow a strict diet and have a very precise eating schedule.”
Vanusa revealed that her meal comprised sweet potatoes and eggs, ingredients that align with her dietary preferences focused on natural foods rich in proteins and low glycemic index carbohydrates to support lean muscle mass and muscle recovery. Despite the discomfort expressed by fellow passengers, Vanusa stood her ground, stating, “I noticed people giving me strange looks, but I didn’t pay much attention. It was only when a flight attendant came over that I realized the smell was bothering others.” She managed to convince the crew to allow her to keep her meal until the end of the flight.
Vanusa, who eats around 250 eggs a month to maintain her muscular physique, is unwavering in her dedication to her lifestyle and dietary choices. Reflecting on the incident, she acknowledged the need for compromise but affirmed her commitment saying, “I understand where people are coming from, but it’s complicated. I have my lifestyle and need to stick to my diet. We need to find a middle ground, right?” While she may consider bringing a different meal next time, relinquishing her meal prep is not an option for her.
This incident is not the first time Vanusa has encountered challenges due to her dietary requirements. Previously, she shared an experience where a date was unimpressed as she brought her own meal to a restaurant. Despite such encounters, Vanusa remains steadfast in her choices and continues to prioritise her health and fitness regimen.
