Suspect Christian Brückner Cleared of Rape Charges
A suspect linked to the disappearance of Madeleine McCann has been found not guilty in an unrelated sexual abuse case in Germany. Christian Brückner, aged 47, faced trial at the Braunschweig state court on three counts of rape and two of sexual abuse. Although he is currently serving a seven-year prison sentence in Germany for rape, Brückner was acquitted of the charges related to three rapes and two instances of sexual abuse in Portugal spanning from 2000 to 2017.
Brückner is a key suspect in the investigation of Madeleine McCann’s disappearance in 2007, but he has not been formally charged in that case. He has been under scrutiny for the suspected murder of the British toddler for over seven years. Brückner had been moving between his native Germany and Portugal since the 1990s until his arrest and expulsion in 2017. During that time, he spent a significant period in the Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz, where Madeleine vanished in May 2007. Despite being a prime suspect, Brückner continues to deny any involvement in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.
