A British holidaymaker had his £67,000 Rolex watch stolen in a mugging while in Spain. The incident took place in Magaluf on the Spanish island of Majorca. The man was out for a stroll with his wife when a thief approached him from behind, causing him to fall to the ground. The thief then forcefully took the expensive watch from the man’s wrist before fleeing the scene with his accomplice on a motorcycle. The holidaymaker’s wife attempted to intervene but was also knocked to the ground by the thief. Despite sustaining minor injuries during the incident, the man and his wife were left shaken by the ordeal.
The muggers, who are believed to be part of an Italian gang known as the “Rolex Gang,” targeted luxury watch owners in the area. The thieves managed to escape shortly after the crime in April but returned to Majorca in September to commit further offenses. Fortunately, the police had identified the suspects and arrested them upon their return. The two Italian men, aged 44 and 57, are facing charges of robbery with violence and falsifying documents related to the motorcycle rental used in the crime.
Spain’s Civil Guard described the Italian gang as highly skilled in stealing luxury watches, and the arrest of these individuals marks a significant breakthrough in combating such criminal activities on the popular holiday island. The release of CCTV footage of the mugging has helped in apprehending the suspects and serves as a warning to other potential offenders. The timely action by the authorities demonstrates a commitment to ensuring the safety and security of tourists in Majorca, particularly against organised theft operations targeting high-value items like luxury watches.
